A 'live' recording not so live
Many reviewers have commented here on the rapt audience who doesn't make a sound.
NOT THAT BAD
Many have despised this recording, most probably because of its improbable cast.
Great opera version-Verdi by the gratest
Because I love the 3 main singers and I saw the video on TV years ago, in spite that Pavarotti is not the ideal tenor voice for the role of Otello, he is still the greatest tenor of the last decades.
marketing attempt
This is the typical marketing blow of the multinationals to squeeze money out of listeners.
** 1/2 Pavarotti took bad advice to leap into Otello without the right voice or the necessary experience
As forgiving as the world was to the great Pavarotti, this Otello was ill-advised on his part.
Another way to do it...and much is so beautiful
I came late to this recording, having, I now think, paid too much attention to its detractors.
Outstanding performance for pavarotti
This was a stretch for the Pav but he pulled it off.
On the whole, a good recording!
It may not be one of his greatest roles, but if you can manage to get the image of the Fat, Bearded, Italian Opera singer out of your head, Pavarotti sings a very believable Otello.
Soft-focus cover + soft-focus recording
I guess I have pretty high standards when it comes to \"Otello\", which is one of the most searingly direct and emotionally complex scores of the 19th century, which led me to emerge from this recording feeling mushily disappointed.
Solti's best Verdi
I'm not crazy about Solti's Verdi recordings.
