Indeed it is a wonderful recording in all respects
One music critic claims that this 1990 Pierre Boulez and the Cleveland Orchestra recording of Le Sacre du Printemps is the definitive one.
A 'Rite' that maintains intensity without losing musicality
I've always loved Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.
The Usual Great Job From Boulez--What else would we expect?
03-21-2014 Of all the Great Com posers, I probably know the least about Stravinsky, as I have always felt him too restrictive and dependent on ballet.
Boulez is amazingly precise, but it's no fun to be x-rayed
This 1992 pairing of Stravinsky's two masterpieces is so obviously no fun that even the slavish Gramophone, after spending a column of special pleading about how marvelous the details were, was forced to admit that Boulez's Petrushka lacked any festive air -- it takes place at a holiday fair, after all -- and that his Le sacre du printemps was short on drama and tension.
Reference quality.
Whether it was through studio manipulation or Boulez' conducting mastery , this recording of Le Sacre and Petrouchka stands out for its orchestral precision and stunning sound quality.
Once again, Boulez and Cleveland deliver benchmark viruosity
The partnership between Pierre Boulez and the Cleveland Orchestra truly is a match made in heaven.
Hey - it's just art!
It's a wonderful thing to hear these pieces performed with different interpretations.
80 YEARS ON
Both Petrushka and the Rite date from 1911, and these performances of them were recorded in 1991.
underrated
This is my favorite Stravinsky disc, along with Boulez' and Dorati's Firebird.
