Tough read but worthwhile..
well done
Begin by understanding you are insignificant, that time is an illusion, that space is connected to that illusion and then launch yourself like a pea in a straw at lunchtime in a junior high school cafeteria..
THE EMINENT ANALYTIC PHILOSOPHER LOOKS TO COMBINE “PARTICULAR” WITH “OBJECTIVE” VIEWS
Thomas Nagel is an American philosopher, currently University Professor of Philosophy and Law at New York University, where he has taught since 1980.
Deep & provocative
Nagel's jargon-free masterpiece starts with fundamental issues in epistemology, consciousness, and identity and then moves on to issues of morality and meaning with a consistent but modest appraisal of what we can know and what we cannot.
Related to the Stoics Ideal State of Being
I was reading Paul and the Stoics by Troels Engberg-Pedersen and he was describing the ideal that a person should be striving for as a goal, and towards the \"good life\", according to Marcus Aurelius, who Troels is using for an example of a Stoic, since he wrote out a systematic description of those beliefs.
Unique, difficult
This is a difficult work, despite the fact that it is clearly written.
Insightful, but lacking in precision...
\"The View from Nowhere\", Thomas Nagel's landmark work in both philosophy of mind and practical reason, provides an interesting and informative discussion of a wide range of topics.
Not Bertrand Russell
This book is an expansion of the ideas in Nagel's essay \"Subjective and Objective\" .
